iBluetooth team announced that it had succeeded in allowing the iPhone to transfer files over Bluetooth. This technology, which has not yet been released, will let jailbroken iPhone users leverage Bluetooth to move files via OBEX, the object exchange protocol. They're working on an iPhone Bluetooth API to allow simple phone-to-phone communications and peripheral add-ons. The development API should allow iPhone applications to network with each other, providing a basis for multi-phone gaming and information exchange such as vCard distribution. The peripheral support will allow iPhones to pair with Bluetooth devices, such as keyboards, to allow wireless connectivity and communication with these peripherals. The iPhone application will be making its way onto the usual jailbroken app distribution systems (Cydia, installer) but right now its in limited release to people who have donated to the project.
The video demonstrates file transfer between an iPhone and a Mac, and between an iPhone and a Sony Ericsson handset.
