October 7, 2008 was the official launch for BlackBerry Bold from Etisalat. We were at one of their outlets in Dubai at 8am and wanted to get three of them but they said they knew nothing about that. We had called their BlackBerry line the night before and they had told us it would be everywhere from 8am yesterday. Then we called Etisalat PR in Abu Dhabi and they said it would be available later yesterday in selected outlets, following a press conference.
Anyway, a friend of ours said the Bold was available at Cellucom and yes, later yesterday they delivered the Bolds to us. The price was AED2999 (without contract) and AED3300 (with new contract).
We backed up our old BlackBerrys (Windows only software I’m afraid) and restored to the Bolds, swapped our SIM cards and it all worked just fine.
I’ll get back to you soon with a more thorough review but my initial impressions are very good. It’s fast, interface is very nice, feels very good to hold and operate and the screen is gorgeous.
